Cervidae State Hospital

This location is a sprawling campus-style former state hospital with some buildings that have been closed for over 20 years, others more recently as 2006. The campus sits in a very quiet area and doesn't get many visitors. The photos featured here are from several different buildings.

Autumn State Hospital
This State Hospital opened in the 1920's with the idea of being a therapeutic suburb. A look at this hospital's history illustrates the advancement of treatment of the mentally ill. From lobotomies, electroshock and hydrotherapy, as well as the issues that plagued many similar institutions like overcrowding, disease and staffing shortage, this particular hospital has lived through the recent period of deinstitutionalization and now operates mainly as an outpatient facility. The photos here are from several of the now-defunct buildings on the campus, no longer needed for the care of the mentally ill.

The Manhatten Project Caverns
I question the validity of the claims that these caves were once dumping grounds for The Manhatten Project - a government project in the 1940's for the purpose of developing nuclear weapons. However even without this historical significance this area is still magnificent to behold and I do hope I have done some justice with my photos.
